JOEL FENTON

Choreographer

Originally from Launceston, Tasmania, Joel is a Melbourne based contemporary dance theatre performer, choreographer and teacher. He completed a Master of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2017 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) at Queensland University of Technology in 2010. His masters explored the process of creating and crafting contemporary dance theatre through task based improvisations and culminated in his solo work Nonsensical. Joel was awarded an Australia Council JUMP mentorship with Shaun Parker in 2013. He has performed works choreographed by Darren Vizer, Becky Hilton, Stephanie Lake, Csaba Budday, Luke George and Antony Hamilton.

Joel choreographed several short works for QL2’s On Course program. He produced Summer Solo Series from 2012-14, where he also performed and choreographed alongside several Melbourne based dance artists. In 2011 he compiled the 30 year history of Tasdance into an online archive.

Joel made his Lyric debut choreographing the 2016 production of Our Man in Havana and returns in 2018 to choreograph Les Mamelles de Tirésias.
