STEPHEN MARSH

Baritone

Stephen Marsh is the 2017 recipient of the Paulette Bisley Opera Scholarship and the Eleanor Blakemore Opera Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust. He made his professional debut in Victorian Opera’s Sleeping Beauty in 2017 and was a developing artist for the company for the second half of the year, performing in a regional tour of Hansel and Gretel, Heroes and Villains (a gala concert) and The Snow Queen (Gordon Kerry’s commissioned work). For Victorian Opera Stephen also appeared in The Grumpiest Boy in the World and in the chorus for La sonnambula.

Stephen was a member of the Opera Scholars Australia program for 6 years. Other companies he has performed with are Melbourne Opera (2012 – 2017 seasons, including as bass soloist for the Melbourne Opera People’s Messiah since 2013), Melbourne Lyric Opera and Shoestring Opera Company.

He has been the recipient of multiple scholarships including the Barbara Pigdon Memorial, the Betty Amsden AO Scholarship ‘Opera Scholar of the Year’ for the Australian Music Events 2016/17 season and the John Duncan scholarship.

Stephen made his Lyric debut in Our Man in Havana and returns in the 2018 production of Les Mamelles de Tiresias
