Shoumendu Ganguly completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Classical Voice (2011). He has studied with Michael Lewis OAM. Anna Connolly and Glenn Winslade, and continues studies with Raymond Lawrence. Shoumendu has performed with many of Australia’s leading opera companies including Opera Australia, Victorian Opera, Melbourne Opera and the Lyric Opera of Melbourne.

 

Roles include Don Inigo Gomez in L’Heure Espagnol, Simone in Gianni Schicci, Walter Wilkins in Merrie England (Lyric Opera of Melbourne), Jaquino and 1st Prisoner in Fidelio, Fiorello in The Barber of Seville (Melbourne Opera), Tranh in The Parrot Factory, Soloist in Assembly (Victorian Opera), Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, St Brioche and Cascada in The Merry Widow, Obstinate, Demas and Envy in Vaughan Williams’ opera, The Pilgrim’s Progress, and Count Almaviva and Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro. He also appeared as Mr. Alexander in Four Letter Word Theatre’s production of A Clockwork Orange.

 

Shoumendu has appeared with Melbourne Opera as a soloist in numerous concert settings and as the Baritone Soloist with the Melbourne University Faculty of Music Choir in Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs. A past residential Choral Scholar with Trinity College, Shoumendu has toured to America and New Zealand with the Trinity College choir and has sung on their CDs, ‘Mystical Songs’ and ‘Angels’.
