AWARD 2019
Lyric are very proud to have been the recipient of the inaugural Green Room Award for 'Contribution to the development of opera in Victoria for our 2018 production of Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tiresias.
This production in the Loft at Chapel off Chapel had an intentionally 'cabaret' feel and was performed with two pianos. The opera was sung in English and opening night was hosted by the one and only Dolly Diamond, Melbourne's Queen of Cabaret. With affordable tickets and a performance time of just on an hour, Mamelles was in every way designed to bring a new audience to opera and we are very proud that this was recognised by our peers in the industry through the Green Room Awards.
2019 OPERA
DIRECTOR'S WORKSHOP
Lyric ran our fourth Opera Director's Workshop this May at Chapel off Chapel. Four aspiring Directors were able to explore opera under the mentorship of Suzanne Chaundy. As well as directing young singers in scenes from The Marriage of Figaro, the directors attended rehearsals at Opera Australia and met with a wide range of industry professionals.
