Mateusz Gwizdalla, Mati for short, is a young conductor and performing artist who takes on the guise of brass player, composer, sound designer, singer and actor, although rarely all at once. He is the Associate Musical Director of Boroondara Brass Inc. since 2013, recently appointed Musical Director of Cadence Choir (Port Melbourne) and has been the Assistant Conductor for Lyric Opera of Melbourne throughout 2014. He has been the interim conductor for Exaudi Youth Choir and has had experience as assistant with the MSO in their 2013 Appalacian Spring program. He has been fortunate enough to have the mentorship and guidance of several conductors throughout his study, including Benjamin Northey, Mark O'Leary, Daniel van Bergen, Daniel Carter and of course, Patrick Miller.

 

Mati was awarded an AMusA with distinction on trumpet in 2011. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS, 2008-2011) he was awarded the school’s Musicology Award, Principals Award and Citizenship Award. His VCE studies in his final year earned him two Premiers’ Awards in two music subjects – Music Investigation & Music Style and Composition.  Mati is currently undertaking a double degree Bachelor of Music (Jazz Composition) and Bachelor of Performing Arts at Monash University, whilst in his spare time working as a clown for a child entertainment business.
