KATE MACFARLANE

Soprano

Described as an ‘engaging and exciting performer’ (Aachener Zeitung), coloratura soprano Kate Louise Macfarlane specialises in Baroque and Contemporary Classical Music. Kate was an ensemble member in Theater Aachen (Germany), where she sang several world premiere opera roles, as well as Serpetta (La Finta Giardiniera) Olympia (Tales of Hoffmann) and Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel). Career highlights include Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre, Nitocris in Handel’s Belshazzar, and the debut of her Baroque Cabaret La Virtuosissima Cantatrice.

Opera credits include Cupid (Venus and Adonis), Bubikopf and Der Trommler (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Catherine (Pomme d’Api) Frasquita (Carmen), Papagena (The Magic Flute), Bertha (The Barber of Seville), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Lucy (The Telephone), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Israeli Soldier / Palestinian Woman (The Shouting Fence), and Cupid (Orpheus in the Underworld). Concert appearances include Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Schütz’s Christmas Story, Handel’s Messiah, and Allegri’s Miserere.

​For Lyric Kate has sung in Trouble in Tahiti, Pomme d’Api, and The Japanese Princess. In 2018 Kate will undertake the titular role in Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tiresias.
